What Does A Doula Do?

Physical Support

Doulas strive to create a calm, serene, and comfortable birthing environment that aligns with your birth vision and goals. We provide massage, pressure, soothing touch, and encourage your partner to be an active participant and use these techniques as well. We encourage the birther and partner to stay nourished and hydrated.

Emotional Support

Doulas support your decisions and choices. We encourage you to share your feelings, process all the changes that come with pregnancy and birth, and pump you up with empowerment by praise, encouragement, positivity, love, and care. We keep you company, and walk beside you every step of the way.

Informational Support

Doulas can help you find evidenced based information, provide childbirth education, inform you about different options, and help to explain things. Doulas can give you ideas for breathing, relaxation, movement, and positions during labor.

Advocacy Support

Doulas will not speak for you, but they will help you to feel informed and empowered to speak up for yourself to make decisions for your body and your baby. We encourage you to speak up to ask the questions you want answered.

Why is this important?

Studies have shown that having a doula may increase satisfaction about your birth, shorten labor, increase chances of having a spontaneous vaginal delivery, and reduce complications for yourself and your baby.

“Research has shown that labor support from doulas is both risk-free and highly effective.” – Evidence Based Birth Evidence on: Doulas
